As a young girl growing up in a third world country, I was always deeply moved and perplexed by the presence of overwhelming human suffering. The desire to express beauty seemed a stark contrast to the world of poverty, educational limitation and human malaise that afflicted my country. Only later in life did I come to the inner resolution that my artistic expression was not the presentation of an idea that existed outside myself, but was instead the effulgence of the Greater Life that is being all of us. Love thy neighbor as thyself took on a whole new meaning as its reality transcended religious mandate and became a matter of family identification. Oneness with the HIV children in Africa is not a concept, it is the reality of who I am as an expression of Love. Love must flow to where it is needed and in what form it is needed, whether it be to an HIV orphanage in Tanzania, or a progressive school in Cali Colombia. From this realization that we truly are One and that our common bond is the Love nature of our Life Source, has come the manifestation of what I have called “Art For Life”. Through a partnership with “Life For The Nations” we have created a way for a percentage of the profits from all image sales to be invested in humanitarian projects both here and abroad. Como adolescente que crecía en un país del tercer mundo, siempre me conmovieron y me asombraban en lo profundo de mi espíritu el abrumador sufrimiento de los seres humanos. El deseo de expresar la belleza me pareció un contraste absoluto y total ante el mundo de pobreza, limitaciones educativas, y los sentimientos de insatisfacción que afligían a mi patria. Tan sólo mucho más tarde, con el transcurrir de los años, alcancé la resolución interior que mis expresiones artísticas no representaban una idea que estaba fuera de mí, sino que en cambio era el resplandor de la Vida Grande y Poderosa que es todo en nosotros. Ama a tu prójimo como a ti mismo, adquirió un significado completamente nuevo como una realidad que trascendía el mandamiento religioso y que vino a ser materia de identificación familiar. La Unidad con los niños HIV positivos en África, no es un concepto, es la realidad de quien soy como una manera de expresar el Amor. Aquel Amor que debe fluir donde se necesita, ya sea un orfanato para niños con HIV en Tanzania o ya en una escuela elemental en Cali, Colombia. A partir de este convencimiento que en verdad somos Uno y que nuestro vínculo común reside en la naturaleza de Amor de nuestro Origen de Vida, ha venido la manifestación de lo que denomino “Arte Para La Vida.” Mediante una estrecha cooperación con “Vida Para Las Naciones,” hemos creado un camino a fin de que un porcentaje de las ganancias en todas las ventas de las fotografías se invierta en proyectos humanitarios tanto aquí como en el extranjero. The integration and fusion of our lives with its experiences and circumstances will gently lead us and guide us to Oneness. Whether our perception is of the fiery dissolution of unconsciousness or the brilliant radiance of resultant Life, the conclusion will always be the same, Life is One. The female form continues to represent the manifested aspect of creation while the flames and fire represent a spiritual or abstract aspect of creation. Resistance or surrender seems to come and go as we breathe until light and understanding allow the integration of Self. The minimal expression of certain moments captured is just another enjoyment of creating images from within, with a desire to share and extend the beauty of it with all those that see beyond. AGNI - LOS FUEGOS DE LA FUERZA VITAL Con respecto a las luces del cielo, Agni, el fuego, es el elemento primario. En la continuación de una representación simbólica de la Vida, el fuego es la inhalación y la exhalación de un sacrificio consistente. La integración y fusión de nuestras vidas con sus experiencias y circunstancias, nos dirigirá gentilmente y nos llevará a la Unidad. Si nuestra percepción es la de una disolución fiera de inconciencia o la brillante irradiación de la Vida resultante, la conclusión siempre será la misma: la Vida es Una. La forma femenina representa el aspecto manifiesto de la creación, en tanto que las llamas y el fuego representan un aspecto abstracto o espiritual de la creación. La resistencia o la rendición parece que viene y se va en la medida en que alentamos hacia la luz y el entendimiento permite la integración de nuestro Ser interior. La expresión mínima de ciertos momentos capturados es apenas otro gozo de crear imágenes desde el interior, con el deseo de compartir y extender esa belleza con todos aquellos que tienen la capacidad de ver más allá. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ AQUARIA, WATER The Fourth and last element of this series is Aquaria, the Free Flowing Waters of Life!!! Just like Air represents Spirit; Rocks, the Earthy and Fire, Purification and Surrender; Water comes in to represent an aspect of Life, Regeneration and Renewal. As we have mentioned in the other three series, the Female Form is speaking of manifestation, splendor and beauty, Nature Itself in fullness of form and demonstration. Water in its different forms of movement, energy, strength, power, tranquility and stillness directs us to the wide gamut of its expression. Quite similar to the Verb made flesh in a dissemination of moods and emotions that bring color, tone, and radiance to the uniqueness of Life in its manifested form. No matter how we perceive it, it continues to be a sign post to All being gathered unto One! AQUARIA, AGUA El Cuarto y ultimo elemento de esta serie es Aquaria, las Aguas de Vida que fluyen libremente!!! Así como el Aire representa el Espíritu, las Rocas representan la Tierra, y el Fuego la Purificación y la Rendición, el Agua entra a representar un aspecto de la Vida, la Regeneración y la Renovación. Como hemos mencionado en las otras tres series, la Forma Femenina habla o manifiesta el esplendor, la belleza, la naturaleza en sí misma en plenitud de forma y demostración. El Agua en sus diversas formas de movimiento, energía, vigor, poder, tranquilidad, calma y quietud nos dirige a una amplia gama de sus expresiones. Muy semejante al Verbo que se hizo carne en una diseminación muy amplia de emociones y sentimientos que traen color, tono e irradiaciones a la unidad divina y extraordinaria de la Vida en su forma manifiesta. ¡Sin que importe cómo lo percibamos, continúa siendo un signo indicativo que Todo se reúne y se junta en Uno! ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ SINAWAVA, THE TEMPLE Sinawava, a name that directs us to one of the most beautiful and wondrous places of this magnificent earth. It alludes to white and rose colored rock formations and mountains whose grandeur is unlike any other place on earth. The native inhabitants of this area, no doubt, had great appreciation and recognition of the glorious, sublime, grand and divine as part of their integral life. This place, for them, must truly have been the Temple or Tabernacle of God. Sinawava has been chosen as the representation of what continues to be an expression of this endeavor to create images representative of spiritual reality, that is, the virtual Oneness of all creation as the display and radiance of its magnificent Unseen Source. Earth and especially rock would seem to be the extreme sensory contrast to the fluid abstractness of spiritual reality, nevertheless, as one of the four basic elements of the tangible creation, its true essence as Life Itself is open to the witnessing eye. I'm trusting that it can be seen as such.....Oneness Being. SINAWAVA, EL TEMPLO Sinawava, nombre que nos dirige a uno de los más hermosos y bellos lugares de esta magnífica tierra. Alude a las montañas y formaciones rocosas de color blanco y rosa, cuya grandeza no tiene par en ningún otro punto del mundo. Los habitantes nativos de esta área, sin duda, han tenido gran reconocimiento y gratitud de lo glorioso, sublime, grande y divino como parte de su vida integral. Este sitio, para ellos, en verdad debe haber sido el Templo o Tabernáculo de Dios. Sinawava se eligió como símbolo de lo que continúa y es una expresión de este esfuerzo para crear imágenes representativas de realidad espiritual, es decir, la virtual Unidad de toda la creación como el despliegue e irradiación de su magnífico Origen Invisible. La Tierra, y de manera particular la roca, parecería ser el contraste sensorial extremo para la abstracción fluida de la realidad del Espíritu. Sin embargo, como uno de los cuatro elementos básicos de la creación tangible, su esencia verdadera como Vida en Sí Misma, está abierta al ojo que quiera ser testigo. Confío que se pueda ver como tal…La Unidad del Ser. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ SWALILA Swalila is a word that refers to the Divine Interplay, the Dance between the form and the formless. In the creation of this series of images, it has been a delight to engage the day to day living reality of Swalila, both as a participant and an observer. It is evident that the obviovus interaction between inspiration and expression illuminates the continual play or “dance”, between Spirit and form, that ever composes the symphony of life we all experience. As we emerge from our hidden views of life with the precious understanding that our current world has been the product of our own limited perception, there is a new joyful vision that the to and fro struggles of duality are being outgrown, and in their place is emerging a Life-view radiant with the realization that our Oneness with the Source of All is, and ever will be, the supreme Reality. The intent of this body of work is to draw the viewer to make a connection of the Spirit, represented by the heavens and clouds and manifested life, represented by the female form in its radiance and beauty. As integration takes place, the majesty of it All emanates to bring another perception of the Divine Interplay, the Joy of Life, Swalila. SWALILA Swalila es una palabra que hace referencia a la Interacción Divina, la Danza entre la forma y lo informe. En la creación de esta serie de imágenes, ha sido un deleite entregarse día a día y vivir la realidad de Swalila, al mismo tiempo como participe y como observador. Es evidente que la obvia interacción entre inspiración y expresión ilumina el continuo "juego" o "danza," entre Espíritu y forma, que siempre compone la sinfonía de la existencia que todos experimentamos. A medida que emergemos de nuestras perspectivas ocultas de la vida, con el precioso entendimiento que nuestro mundo actual ha sido el producto de nuestra propia percepción limitada, hay una nueva visión plena de gozo y regocijo, que las luchas de la dualidad se superaron, y en su lugar brota una visión radiante de Vida teniendo conciencia que nuestra unidad con la Fuente de Todo es, y siempre será, la Realidad suprema. A medida que tiene lugar la integración, emana la majestad de Todo y trae otra percepción de la Interacción Divina, el Gozo de Vida, Swalila. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ALUMBRAMIENTO This Body of Work is titled ALUMBRAMIENTO. Alumbramiento is a word in Spanish that means to give light by giving birth. There is no word in the English language that captures this unique idea of the link that exists between the illumination and being born. The Aramaic idiom of being "born again" and the eastern idea of enflightenment both speak metaphorically of the awakening that "illuminates" the mind to the soul's true identity causing it to arise from its womb-like darkness into light and life. The spiritual backdrop of this series of images is the inspiration that the personal and corporate illumination of consciousness is presently emerging in our world. The natural scenes drawn from the diverse landscape of Iceland are the metaphoric ground of human struggle from which Life emerges. This land of intense and rhythmic pressure, avails itself as the womb from which enlightened humanity, pictured here in the male form, emerges fully composed; his nature radiant in Source. ALUMBRAMIENTO El Cuerpo de esta Obra se titula ALUMBRAMIENTO. Alumbramiento es una palabra en castellano que significa dar luz, o mejor dar a luz o nacer. En el idioma inglés no hay ningún vocablo que capture esta idea única del vínculo que existe entre la iluminación y el nacer. Tanto en la antigua lengua aramea el "nacer de nuevo," como en la idea oriental de iluminación, ambas hablan de forma metafórica del "despertar" que ilumina la mente a la verdadera identidad del alma y la hacen que se levante de las sombras semejantes al vientre y salga a la luz y a la vida. El telón de fondo espiritual de esta serie de imágenes, consiste en la inspiración en la que la iluminación personal y corporativa de la conciencia surge en la actualidad en nuestro mundo. Las escenas naturales extraídas de los diversos paisajes de Islandia, constituyen el terreno metafórico del cual brota la Vida. Esta tierra de presiones intensas y rítmicas, se utiliza en sí misma como el vientre de donde la humanidad iluminada, que se ilustra aquí bajo la forma masculina, emerge completamente compuesta; su naturaleza radiante en el Origen. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ THE DANCE OF LIFE Art in its unlimited form and expression becomes an image of the subjective and the abstract/spiritual. The Dance of Mahanaim or the Dance of two Camps is a Biblical term that speaks about the Source of Life (subjective) and Manifested Life (objective) happening at the same time and being integrated in One. In the observance of Life, this phenomena is readily observed and demonstrated in both its integrative and contradistinctive forms. One of its simplest forms is the movement of dance when an external gesture is the result of an inner and in-depth intricate explosion of energy or light in manifestation. The choice of the female form in movement and nature being integrated in One is a mere sample of this greater truth. We often hear the saying "Life is a Dance". We also know that nature is Life in manifestation. The idea of bringing the two together in a blending of gesture and beauty was conducive to an artful expression of the Dance of Life! LA DANZA DE LA VIDA El arte en su actitud ilimitada y en su expresión se convierte en (viene a ser) una imagen de lo subjetivo y de lo abstracto y espiritual. La Danza de Manahaim o Danza de los Dos Campamentos es un término bíblico que habla sobre el Origen de la Vida (carácter subjetivo) y sobre la Vida Manifiesta (carácter objetivo) que suceden al mismo tiempo y se integran en Uno. Al observar la Vida, estos fenómenos se aprecian con rapidez y se demuestran tanto en los aspectos integrales como en los aspectos contradictorios. Una de sus formas más simples consiste en el movimiento de la danza donde (cuando) un gesto externo es el resultado de una explosión interior que se teje en lo profundo y se exterioriza en la energía o en la luz. La elección de la forma femenina en el movimiento y en la naturaleza que se integran en Uno, no es sino una simple muestra de esta verdad más grande. Con frecuencia oímos decir “La Vida es una Danza.” Asimismo sabemos que la naturaleza es Vida que se manifiesta. La idea de traer las dos juntas en una mezcla de gesto y hermosura, condujo a una expresiva Danza de la Vida plena de arte. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ TOUCH Inspired by "moments of observation" and therefore realizing the importance, relevance and implications of relationships; I ventured on the possibility of expressing this through images. Choosing probably one of the most fragile, tender and vulnerable elements in nature, PEDALS, representing the nature of everyone's heart; and choosing HANDS, representing the emotional gesture in which we touch each other through our relationships. I quote one of the sages of the last century, J. Krishnamurti. "Relationship is the basic foundation of life, that is to be related, to be in contact with. Relationship is life, relationship is the foundation of existence. Relationship is absolutely necessary otherwise you cannot exist. Relationship means cooperation, love generosity and kindness. "He goes on further to point out that if we are related to each other we have no image about each other and how having images of ourselves and others is what avoids true relationships. As a hand, a touch and a pedal are pure in their essence, so is the desire for us to see a flowering in human consciousness. TOQUE Con la inspiración de “instantes observados” y, por tanto, al darme cuenta de la importancia, la relevancia y lo implícito en las relaciones, me aventuré en la posibilidad de expresar esto por medio de imágenes. Al elegir quizá uno de los elementos más frágiles, tiernos y vulnerables en el entorno y el ambiente—los pétalos—que representan la naturaleza del corazón y las manos de todos, se ilustra la actitud con la que debemos tocarnos unos a otros a través de nuestras afinidades. Cito a uno de los hombre más sabios del siglo pasado, J. Krishnamurti: “La Relación es el cimiento básico de la vida, que es estar relacionado, tener contacto con. La relación es vida; la relación es el fundamento de la existencia. La relación es absolutamente necesaria, pues de otra manera, usted no puede existir. La relación significa cooperación, amor, generosidad y bondad.” El autor continúa y enfatiza que si no estamos relacionados unos con otros, carecemos de la imagen de los demás y cómo el no tener imágenes de nosotros mismos y de los otros, impide y evita las relaciones verdaderas. Así como una mano, un toque y un pétalo son puros en su esencia, así es el deseo para que veamos un florecimiento en la conciencia humana. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ FLOWERING TULIPS Our journey through life may be called and odyssey toward the discovery of our true nature as Love being. In the moment we see that all of our steps have brought us to the place where we at last know ourselves, there is an epiphanic joy that comprehends the majesty in Oneness that is revealing itself in such wisdom. Flowering Tulips is a meditation in the unveiling of this essence of being within the simple grace and beauty of a very special flower. White tulips with their soft texture and shine present a radiant display of purity, gentleness, grace and light emanating through those, whom as a flower, bloom and unfold to full expression of Love and Life. The body forms, which represent each of our unique expressions of life are shaped and formed in the image of that One Radiance to unveil the beautiful openness and availability of Love… the Love that we are. TULIPANES EN FLOR Nuestro "viaje por la vida" bien se podría titular una odisea hacia el descubrimiento de nuestra naturaleza verdadera como Seres de Amor. A partir del momento en que aceptamos que todos nuestros pasos nos han traído al lugar donde por último nos conocemos a nosotros mismos, nos inunda la epifanía de un gozo inexpresable que capta la grandeza de la Unicidad que se revela a sí misma en sabiduría. Tulipanes en Flor es una meditación sobre las revelaciones de esta esencia del Ser, dentro de la gracia sencilla y la hermosura de esta flor tan especial. Los tulipanes blancos con su suave textura y su brillo, presentan y ofrecen un radiante despliegue de pureza, gracia y luz que emana a través de quienes, como una flor, prosperan, florecen y se abren, hasta alcanzar la expresión completa y total del Amor y la Vida. Las formas corporales, que representan cada una de nuestras expresiones únicas de vida, tienen la forma y se han conformado a la imagen de aquella Irradiación Sublime e Inefable para quitar el velo a la bella apertura y disponibilidad del Amor…el Amor que somos. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ THE MYSTERY OF LIFE There exists a mystery surrounding the deeper dimensions of Life that has been the inspiration of poets, artists, composers and holy men. To discover the integrated harmony of the world of the seen and the unseen is to happen upon the very essence of Life itself and to do so in a way that answers the deepest inquiries of the soul...who am I and from what vastness have I come? It should come as no surprise that the processes of human difficulty and triumph as well as struggle and ascension are mirrored for us in nature, and ever so profoundly in the beauty and transforming power that is Antarctica. The iceberg images presented speak of the relentless metamorphic power that shapes, colors and carves these magnificent structures. Once part of a vast river of ice, they are broken off and thrust upon the sea only to be conditioned by movement, wind, water and course until finally they peacefully melt into the sea of Oneness from which they came. Within the heart of this form we call human, lies the mystery of an essence that is being unveiled, a nature revealed, and a beauty beheld. I convey this inner radiance through the female form which is Life itself being in the midst of all the travails of time and space. This is who you are and it is who I am and we are become One. EL MISTERIO DE LA VIDA Hay un misterio que rodea las dimensiones más profundas de la Vida y ha sido la inspiración de poetas, artistas, compositores y santos. Descubrir la armonía integral del mundo visible y del invisible es afectar la propia esencia de la Vida misma y hacerlo en una forma que responde a las más hondas búsquedas del alma…¿quién soy y de qué inmensidades he venido? No debería sorprendernos que los procesos en las dificultades y en los triunfos humanos, así como en sus luchas, progresos y avances, se nos reflejen en la naturaleza y siempre de un modo tan insondable como en la hermosura y en el poder transformador que es la Ántartida. Las imágenes de icebergs que aquí se presentan, hablan de la energía metamórfica intensa y persistente que produce y da aspectos, colores y formaciones en estas estructuras magníficas. Alguna vez parte de un enorme río de hielo, se han desprendido y se lanzan al océano sólo para ser condicionados por el curso de la corriente, los vientos y el agua, hasta que por último se funden en el mar de la Unidad de donde vinieron. Dentro del corazón de esta forma que llamamos humana, yace el misterio de una esencia que se da a conocer, de una naturaleza que se revela y de una hermosura que se contempla. Comunico este resplandor interno por medio de la forma femenina que es Vida en sí misma y se halla en medio de todos los alumbramientos del tiempo y del espacio. Esto es quien eres tú y al mismo tiempo quien soy yo, pues nos hemos convertido en Uno. |
